02/02/88 - OSAKAJO HALL, OSAKA Bryan
arrives in Osaka, Japan for the first of 2 shows in the city. At the train station
he is greeted by hundreds of fans after a glimpse of him!
Bryan's
take on it all: "The bullet train travels at about 150 miles an hour between
Tokyo and Osaka. It's the fastest and most convient way of travelling across Japan.
The disadvantage is that everyone knows the timetable. If you're playing a gig
in Osaka, they know which train you'll be on. So lot's of people will pitch up
on the platform waiting for you to show up. Japan
takes some getting used to, because the custom of giving is so strong. Total strangers
walk up to you and give you gifts. It's a wonderful thing but it's also embarrassing
when you can't immediately reciprocate. It's Japanese tradition. It's their way
of showing their appreciation for your coming to the country to perform. They
have a great love of music." | A
