02/12/91 - ELYSEE MONTMARTRE, PARIS Summary
by Bryan King: The venue is a small (probably a club) place known as Elysée Montmartre. Clearly it is a smaller venue than the arenas where the majority of the Fall '91 shows took place in Europe. BA makes reference that it's a "very interesting" place to play and that it's a "small place" to play. Maybe a smaller venue was chosen because he had already played the biggest venue in the city 3 times a few months earlier on the summer tour. In any case, this gave Paris a chance to catch the tour after the 'Waking' album launch date and therefore some new songs. The show is extremely loose and the set list is completely rearranged from the other fall dates. It's possible that BA meant to play a shorter than usual set, but added songs when inspired. With the exception of Hey Honey... into Can't Stop... and Everything I Do... into Run to You, the rest of the songs are played out of standard tour order. He takes requests from the audience (Tonight) and adds songs such as Kids Wanna Rock near the end of the main set. To notice the difference in set lists, scroll down to the Whitley Bay set list from five weeks prior to this show and you'll get a better idea of the "typical" fall '91 set structure. This Paris show is a treat to hear since it feels as though BA's making up his mind as the show goes on. The audience is awesome for this. The call-and-response during Hey Honey... is different than how other audiences responded as this one called back "I'm Packin' You In" instead of "Hey Honey". They chant Run to You - Run to You during the first notes of the song. Given the small size of the venue, they know that they are being treated to something special. Setlist: | |||
