Red Dragon FM interview taped backstage before the show...
(We caught up with Bryan Adams last night backstage before he did his big gig)

Bryan, this is another sellout gig for you, second in less than a year.
BA: We were just here weren't we?
>It seems like you've never been away
BA: I like Wales.
>Now this is your eighth album, '18 Til I Die', why do you think it's your best?
BA: I think it's actually my ninth album. You gotta say it's your best. It's the most recent so it's your best.
>So how does it stand up with things against 'Reckless', I mean, all those hits that 'Reckless' spawned?
BA: I think we'll have to see, see how it looks in 10 years time. I mean, 'Reckless' was released in '84, and it's 13 years ago, so lets see what happens in 13 years and if '18 Til I Die' stands the test of time.
>Does it seem like that?
BA: I some ways if I really think about it, it does seem like 13 years ago because I remember playing in '83/'84, and if I think about it even '85. But when we first played here on the 'Reckless Tour' we were the support band for Tina Turner and so I do remember that very well.
>I think you would remember working with Tina Turner. We remember 'It's Only Love', the single you dueted with. Now you seem to be getting, as the years go on, especially with this new album '18 Til I Die' and 'The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You' and '(I Wanna Be) Your Underwear'..., you're getting raunchy aren't you Bryan?
BA: Well I just...you know...what can I say? Yes! Well there's interesting titles and I think I've become more interested in creating songs that provoke a reaction and particularly with...even song titles are incredibly long like '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You'.
>Was that a big hit for you?
BA: It was actually it did very well yeah! If you go down to your local pub I'm sure someone might be able to...
>On the subject of that song, do you think that it will ever be beaten at #1. I mean I know the 'Wet Wet Wet' boys came pretty close?
BA: A lot of people have come close. You know what, I don't spend one minute thinking about those sort of things because it was a fantastic record, it did really well, it's bound to happen one day that someone will bread the record, it's obvious. Bohemian Rhapsody held the record for a long time and every couple of years someone will come out with another record....you never know.
>Do you think things like that are bad for the image sometimes when you think "oh Bryan Adams, he just sings nice ballads"...
BA: Well I really don't think that at all, I think it's a beautiful song and a lot of people love that record and OK, it was a slow number but I've always done slow numbers. Shall I play it?
>Yeah go on, make yourself useful go on!!
BA: *(Everything I Do) I Do It For You*
>Great song, we love it. I like it.
BA: There was a lot of funny stories about that record. There were actually people that had been taken prisoner in the Gulf War and the story one of them came off the plane and the first question he asked was "is Bryan Adams still number 1?" So, there's lots of funny things you hear and it was a phenomenal time and a phenomenal record and I think it stands the test of time too. I mean a lot of people say "oh, I don't wanna hear that song again, I heard it enough" but you understand when you hear it that it does provoke a...
>It captures a great mood...
BA: Yeah it does. Everybody will remember the film and what they were doing at the time.
>Well I don't remember the film at all but I remember the record! The film was rubbish!! So you still love touring obviously...
BA: Yeah, well I got a big entourage of people here and...
>Yeah we bumped into most of them on the way in, saying "what are you doing here?"
BA: We got about 30/40 people here on tour with us. It's a big family, a bit of a brotherhood. You know, we've been together a long time and so in a sense it's become a bit of a circus. We've created this and we're gonna keep going. Like you said, we were here about six months ago and we're back again and there's a reason for that, people... there's been a demand... The demand is still there cos it was soldout a long time ago. At the time we could've possibly done two nights here in Cardiff but, hey listen I'm happy to come back.
>How does this compare cuz I know you played the Arms Park, how does it compare to the CIA?
BA: Well, I like both really for different reasons. The Arms Park was an excellent gig. The thing I like about playing in a big stadium like that is that people... there's a sense of a party...I don't know what it is...it's sort of an outdoor...a proper afternoon out, a picnic or something and there's always lots of good singing going on. I like all that but in a gig like this it's much more personal and even this is still quite a big gig but there's a different atmosphere completely. You really have to change your whole approach to what you are doing... one for stadiums, and one for smaller gigs.
>Do you still get the buzz when you're singing onstage and you stop singing but the crowd continue...
BA: Thats a great feeling... to know that you've written something and everyone is out there watching you singing.
>What's that feel like?
BA: That's the feeling that keeps most people going in the business. Thats the thing that keeps singer singing and songwriters writing and I think... you do this for yourself initially, but when you get people off then you do it for them as well.
>How do you keep your feet on the ground, cuz everyone says "oh, Bryan Adams what a nice bloke"
BA: I'm trying to change that! I don't really think about that either, again I get on with what I do. I'm a songwriter, I'm a singer and so I get on with what I do best. I've never really got into the trappings of being sort of a celebrity. You won't see me opening up restaurants...
>So what's in the future Bry?
BA: Opening a restaurant! No, I don't know what I'm doing. Just gonna keep touring and gonna go to America for a while, gonna have a cup of tea.
>What a good idea! Put the kettle on.
BA: It's on right now!!
>Bryan thanks very much indeed for talking to us. Thankyou. Wasn't he a lovely bloke. Nice bloke! Bryan Adams... if you were there at the gig last night...what a diamond gig. And he did make us a cup of tea but... he makes a crap cup of tea! He really does!
