31/07/99 - CITY FESTIVAL, HELSINKI Review
by Heli Uolamo: Bryan and guys were the last performers of the day, after the Brand New Heavies and about 15 000 people had came to see them. They started already about 9.20 pm, after some reggae sounds from a tape. I was there in the 3rd row standing in front of Keith, and as the stage was quite a high, I couldn't actually see much of Mickey at all. I took photos with 2 different cameras and was so delighted when I noticed also Bryan loved to take many photos during the gig! Bryan seemed to like the place alot - the sea was only about 20 metres from the stage and he always seems to like to be near water. They were joking quite alot on stage - at the end Bryan told the audience that he'll gonna jump into the water in 10 minutes, but he then didn't and they did 2 encores. They were all wearing white shirts and white pants, Bryan also wore white sports shoes and they really seemed to have a good time on stage, jumping, joking, laughing and running from the other side to another. They started with How do you feel tonight, smiling, rocking and the audience went wild from the first moment! Then Back to you and the crowd seemed to know the lyrics well again. Before the night was over, I don't wanna live forever, It's only love, and everybody was singing, clapping and jumping on the beach - it was still so warm though the sun was not shining at 10 pm anymore. C'Mon

- every time I hear it, that is like the first time I heard it. TOTTLGOM - at the end Bryan kept pointing audience with his finger and we did the same, for along time - he kept quite along and the crowds were shouting YOU, YOU, YOU!! it felt great! At about 10.40 pm they were all standing on stage, thanking the audience and smiling - then left, but the audience kept shouting: More, More, we want Bryan, Heaven, heaven!! A few minutes later Keith came back with
his guitar, then Bry and Mickey. They left again but came back soon another time - Cloud No 9 - I can still hear Bryan starting so sweetly: "Number nine, number nine.." I love this song too! Please forgive me - and everybody knew the lyrics - this one has also been played alot on Finnish radio stations over the years. Run to you - its' always as great as it can be - one of my all time favourites! If there are only one or two tunes of Bryan, I'd love, this one is the other and BTU is the other one. It was just a perfect night - after they had left there was a fire works on the beach, it looked great in the dark evening. The feeling was so unreal as it always is after a real good concert - I was walking to get a bus and to get a hotel, same which Bryan has used in Helsinki during his earlier visits. I think they didn't stay in Helsinki this time, but left straigt up to Oulu, in Northern Finland where they had the last gig of this tour next day. It was about 700 kms (450 mls) up from Helsinki. The papers in Finland told something about the gigs, also this: After the Oulu gig Bryan's chef had made them some pasta food in the Swimming Hall building (which was all booked for them!), and after spending about an hour there, they were driven to the Oulu airport and the private plane took them to London at about midnight. That was the end of this tour and I'm sure everybody who were in these gigs wants to see Bryan again... Setlist: | |||
