08/03/00 - SYDNEY ENTERTAINMENT
CENTRE, SYDNEY Review by Vicki Hails: The second
show was just the best. If I had to choose from the four I went to during this
tour, I'd have to say tonight's. I guess the fact that I was only 4 rows from
the stage was part of it, but Bryan, Keith and Mickey were all just fantastic.
The highlight for me was that they actually sang Straight From the Heart - I was
really disappointed that they hadn't been playing it here after it had been played
at the Canadian shows earlier in the year, so I was so excited when I heard the
first few bars - I must admit I let out this god almighty scream - scared everyone
around me, and even surprised myself ! Just after
Getaway, Bryan noticed that security were not letting people stand in the isles
on the floor - he asked the security guys to leave and one wouldn't move. He asked
again, said he wasn't being rude, but to let the people through, still the guy
wouldn't. At that point, he said, "you're holding up the show - I'm not playing
til you move." You can imagine the crowd - this went on for a while, then
Bryan asked where his security guys were - we had them coming from backstage,
across the chairs, and everyone in the vicinity were pointing out this one security
guard. The crowd was just calling BRYAN, BRYAN the whole time. Certainly got everyone
up on their feet for Remember which was the next track :-))) Ticket
sales mustn't have been that great, as the crowd was much smaller than this venue
would normally hold, so they had draped black curtains across the sides where
the seats hadn't been filled, which gave the illusion that the venue was much
smaller. Those on the floor were having a great time, and there were lots of people
up in the raised section up clapping and dancing as well. We
had another stunning young blond up on stage for WYG - when asked where she was
from - she said Vancouver, Canada. Bryan just laughed - she was a piano teacher.
He seemed quite happy to go on, but the crowd started to chant "Aussie, Aussie,
Aussie, OY, OY OY" Unless you're a sports fan, I guess only Aussies will
get that - you probably had to be there. Bryan gave in to the crowd and got another
girl on stage as well. So the two sang and danced, etc... To be honest, you could
hardly hear them, but the three of them seemed to be having a lot of fun - and
I noticed they both had been backstage after the show. Unfortunately,
Bryan didn't play On A Day Like Today, I guess that's what we lost out on to get
SFTH. However, we did get Please Forgive Me - which he didn't play last night
... and When The Night Comes, but this time he did a duet with Bill (the guy from
Penrith who requested the song last night). Bill is a big fellow, so Bryan just
handed him a mike in the audience. The crowd really cheered him on, it was great
and Bryan let him sing several of the verses on his own. Bill gave him something
to sign, and he wrote quite a bit, not just his autograph. I
waited outside, together with my sister, and several others for just on two hours
in the pouring rain. I imagine it must have been like it was in Brisbane, we were
soaked, even with umbrellas. All three left separately, Mickey came out first
and just got straight into his car - Keith chatted with a few people. Bryan came
out some time later was wearing a hat tonight (same as the ones Keith and Mickey
were wearing in Wollongong). My sister, said he looked like a fisherman ! He signed
my ticket - and as he was moving onto the next person, I said thanks for playing
Straight From the Heart, and he turned around, and said "You're welcome,
hope you enjoyed it" Swoon .... and I had to drive home ! Setlist: Back
