06/01/02 - HARD ROCK LIVE, ORLANDO, FL Review
by Kelly Ladd: Accompanied by only his drummer Mickey Curry and lead guitarist
Keith Scott, Adams took charge of Hard Rock Live Orlando by belting out both his
smooth ballads and his rockin' greatest hits. Starting off the night, fans, especially
in the first few rows, got into it immediately, waving their arms and singing
along. Some even shook a little booty two-stepping and some even made out. Everyone
was having fun (especially that one couple
). Adams
seemed like a laid back Canadian guy who hasn't let his popularity go to his head
over the years. He and his crew dressed casually in jeans and the same gray t-shirt.
As Adams played the bass by Curry, he often gave Scott the foreground to show
off his strong riffs and his fun use of the wah-wah pedal. The
stage set-up was simple. Silver Jurassic Park like cages made Bryan and his buddies
let loose and get wild. (Adult contemporary wild, that is.) Behind the fence were
giant studio lights that often lit up to express the songs' emotions. Instead
of distracting the audience with loud props, his songs were the focus. Listening
to songs like "Waking up the Neighbors," "18 til' I Die,"
"Summer of 69," and "I Thought I Died and Gone to Heaven"
I felt like I was driving in my car. The sound was so crisp and organic. Other
strong songs of the night included Adams' "Can't Stop This Thing We Started,"
"Cuts Like A Knife" and "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,"
the theme song for the 1991 movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. "Cloud #9,"
"We All Need Somebody" and "Run To You" were the encores of
the night. Jessica Smith of Orlando said, "Bryan Adams kicked ass. Can I
say ass?" |
