07/03/02 - CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL ARENA

Review by Steven Stanley:
Quite simply this was the best gig I have ever been to. On the trip setting off from our native Sheffield on Thursday morning were myself, Mike and Adrian (who everybody seems to know!).

When we checked in our hotel we grabbed a taxi and headed off to the venue for about 11.00am or something. We joined a queue of about a dozen or so people including some people Adrian introduced us to like Paul from New Zealand and Shelley.

Queuing went quickly anyway as there was plenty going on. We saw Tim from the support band of Nerina Pallot just before he went in. Red Dragon FM also wanted an interview off us for an interview with a BA fan before the gig, so we nomitated Adrian the chatterbox! While we were there during the day many people came and went so we decided to go around the front and rejoin our spaces in the queue again.
Just before the doors opened the atmosphere outside was amazing and my butterflies were really going.

The doors opened anyway and I managed to grab yet another front row spot just to the left of Bryan's mike with Paul and Kelly and her friend from the queue and of course Mike. Adrian was nearer the middle because he got let in earlier due to having a backstage pass somehow!

The place soon filled up and even before the support artist Nerina Pallot had come on the place was buzzing. Speaking of Nerina quite a few of the BA regulars have took a liking to her because she is very good. Tonight she was struggling with an illness but she did very well anyway.

The lights soon went down anyway and Bryan came blazing on with a particularly rousing rowdy version of 'Back To You'. All the songs sounded better tonight probably due to the fact that the crowd was so good.

Once again near the end BA came on at the other end of the arena at the b-stage and that was very good as well. Just before Bryan ran off stage he shouted 'whats up pussycat?' and all the crowd went 'whoaaaaaaaaaaooooo' which was cool to end the show with!

Also, when it came up to 'When You're Gone' one of the people I was queuing with and talking to before the gig (Kelly) got picked to sing with Bryan! She did really well after a hostile reception from the crowd after she revealed she came from London, so she won them over in the end! (Kelly onstage below).

When she returned to the front row she had been given 3 backstage aftershow passes and some t-shirts. She took her friend and Paul backstage and they got to meet Bryan in his dressing room with Adrian as well (who got there through Kelly telling him to come lol)! Adrian took some bloody awesome pictures of BA's antics backstage (but we have agreed not to put them online...they are that good!) which I have along with the ones I always take at whichever venue I go too. I must say as I have been front row all the time my pictures this year are nothing short of stunning!

After the gig we waited around and started talking to Lance (guitar tech) about BA etc and apparently he flew out to LA straight from the Newcastle gig to do 2 shows and return for tonight in Cardiff! Mickey came out anyway so I got him to sigb me some stuff and soon enough the man himself BA came out. He signed my programme and my t-shirt so I had a full set off trio autographs on both those items! Keith came out last but it was nice to see him again as always! Below you can see me with BA :)

It wasn't though just the meeting various members at the gig that made it good...the performance itself was just the best i'd ever seen BA give. Even he was gobsmacked by it during a little speech.

We could never shut Adrian up on the way home as he had just been in BA's bedroom! Mind you we were just as bad because we had met him as well! Adrian got his back signed by BA tonight as well so he could have BA's signiture tattoed on his back...but thats another story in Brighton!...

Keith gives his guitar a bloody good thrash :)

Dragon FM interview Adrian about the gig..."Go go gadget aerial!!!"

Mickey comes out to sign after the gig.

Bryan stirs the Cardiff crowd into a frenzy in what turned out to be a better atmosphere than even Wembley!

Me on a high after the gig in the hotel after meeting all the band for the first time and getting 2 full sets of signatures! As you can see one set was on this orange t-shirt and the other was on the tour programme...you can see BA signing stuff for me further down the page :)
