11/11/02 - KONIG PILSNER ARENA, OBERHAUSEN Review

Day 3:
Slept like a baby I did (sorry Shelly, apparently
I snored :-\ ) woke up and got dressed went down for breakfast and well let's
just say German Breakfasts are quite different than American ones ... AHHHHH COFFEE
this was something I desperatly needed and could appreciate, settled for some
toast and coffee . Back up to get all ready for the gig, and off we went .
We arrive at the Pilsener Arena to see a few Baddies already there, some I could
recognise from photos some I hadn't until I found out the names , then a few more
start arriving and we all meet after nearly 3 years chatting .. was quite cold
out but where we were we didnt get the cold breeze, thought thankfully we are
out of the wind, UNTIL all of a sudden no one was around us queing anymore I go
take a look and everyone is qued up at the side entrance UGGG so we lost our space
in front of the door but it was ok we werent to far behind , we just literally
froze ourselves to the bone. Finally time for doors to open and we ended up all
the way on BA's side of the stage 2nd row well then we noticed BA is in the middle
now cos of the 5 pc coming back. Oh well we were there thats all that mattered,
But I was bummed because I had left a few msgs to Keith making sure he knew I
WOULDN'T be there and with the Help From Ceri ( LUV YA) we kept it from him Because
I wanted to surprise him , but oh well not this night.
The support act Vega
4 came out and WOW blew me away.. Really Great Band. Then
finally time for the Badness to begin. Here they come now WHOO HOOO Started off
with HIA and I really can't remeber the set lists but the show was really good,
Bryan spoke a bit of German to the crowd , That was nice. Then it came time for
WYG.. well Mave , Shelly and I decided that we would try to have some fun, well
that *I* would anyways, to kind of let them know I was Present . So I started
jumping up and down like a loonatic ( don't even say it Keith ) and Bryan puts
his hands over his eyes looking into the crowd and he does see someone jumping
and jumping screaming BRAYN, BRYAN,!!!! He says I am looking at someone and he
just kept looking my way like how long she gonna go on for? and I thought OH NO
I dont really want to be picked I am just having fun so luckily he picked someone
else, Not sure if he had recognised me as an American fan or not but whewwwww.
I thought maybe Keith would have seen the NUTCASE jumping and dancing like I was.
The girl he picked was not so bad she did well and had fun. The remainder of the
show was GREAT, then the B stage was good too I just LOVE She's Only Happy Live...
then back to Main stage and bryan and Co. ended the eveing with Best of Me and
Bryan going to the front row crowd singing right to them WOW I have never seen
him do that, it was so nice to see that!!!
well the show had ended and off
we went to the back or side entrance to hopefully get to see the guys, well it
was so cold and we were completly shatteredand just couldnt wait anymore, Mickey
drove by w/out stopping, and I think Bryan was in one car too Not sure, and hmm
no K-man where is he?? Ah well we decided to go back to the Hotel. I get home
to find out that no more than 5 mins after we left He decided to come out, but
didn't stop. But surely he would have stopped for the Munkiness?? Right?? heheh
Just Kidding !! Back to Hotel to sleep and get up early for Stuttgart.

The boys hit the b-stage Review by Maria Heutz:
Just
a short time after I’ve been back home again from my Bryan Adams concert
in Leeds I found out the new tour dates. What a surprise Bryan would play Oberhausen
on my birthday. So it will be my 11th concert on the 11th of November. How often
had I tried last year him to serenade for my birthday last year. Then he had performed
twice for a German travel agency but there was no chance to take part of one of
these shows for „normal“ people.
Moya came over from England and
Silke from the Saarland and so we started towards Oberhausen. We arrived an hour
later at 1 p. a. There were just a few people queuing so we decided to have a
walk through the Centro, a big shopping centre there. Also we had some food and
drinks. Back at the entrance we begun to wait. There were some more people than
before but no reason to get panic. It looked like we could get good places.
In
the queue we met Carol from Chicago and Mave and Shelly from England so there
was a lot to talk about. Once again I noticed that Bryan can bring together people
from all around the world. In Leeds I met a woman from Canada. So not only me
is travelling to see his concerts.
The security guys were a mess. They denied
us in any way. The blocking was prepared when more than 30 people were already
waiting. Many times we had to go some steps backwards. And always people tried
to come to the top of the queue. It was a lot of a crush.
They let us in some
minutes past 7 p. a. The reason was VEGA 4. They did their sound check that long.
Like always they kept our tickets. I don’t know why they do this. They will
have their reasons for it.
At 8 p. a. VEGA 4 came on stage and they did a good
show. I knew them from the gig in Leeds where they performed. They make wonderful
rock music and know how to enthusiastic the audience. The lead singer is a really
nice young Irish men. The other band members come from Canada (the boy’s
name is Bryan), from New Zealand and from England. They played for ¾ hour.
At 9 p. a. Bryan came on stage and started with HERE I AM. The sound, technology
and also himself got confused so many times. Bryan wasn’t able to remember
his own lyrics. He made a lot of mistakes. Sang the second verse before the first,
changed the words often, sang verses twice.... Normally he’s always looking
around in the audience to see what people do during he is singing. But in Oberhausen
he couldn’t. He had to do to much with himself.
Also he has changed his
place on stage. He now stays in the middle of the stage. So be prepared if you’ll
go to one of the upcoming concerts. Also he has a new bass player in the band.
His name is Norman Fisher. He is good but he doesn’t show any reaction on
stage. He always makes a face as if he isn’t happy about the work he is doing
there.
Okay, the set list was like this: HOUSE ARREST, 18 TIL I DIE and CAN’T
STOP THIS THING WE STARTED. After this Bryan said: “Good evening Oberhausen.”
He went on with BACK TO YOU and a new acoustic version of SUMMER OF ‘69.
We didn’t have the chance to sing the first lines by our own alone. He took
this part now. Than he introduced himself with: „My name is Bryan“ and
on the lead guitar „Mr. Keith Scott“. He didn’t mentioned the other
band members. Then he played IT’S ONLY LOVE. He announced a song which was
written in only an hour. It was EVERYTHING I DO I DO IT FOR YOU and he finished
just after the first verse with the words: „That’s it.“ A few seconds
later he played the song until its end. Then followed CUTS LIKE A KNIFE with the
usual never ending „na, na, na, nas“. After this they had to put on
the lights because Bryan wanted to choose a girl for the Mel C. part of WHEN YOU’RE
GONE. A while later he found Kathrin a young red haired lady. During she came
on stage Bryan was singing: „Come on Schatzi (a German word for darling),
come on Schatzi...“ She was so nervous that Bryan told they have to turn
off the lights. So Kathrin could imagine that she was still in her living room
at home and not on stage. She was no singer but she works in a pharmacy. So Bryan
asked her: „Do you sell joints?“ She said: „no“. And he asked:
„Do you sell drugs?“. She answered yes and furthermore she told him
that not all people buy drugs in that pharmacy. Very funny story!! He said something
like she should not be nervous, only 14.000 people are there and that he will
help her. Very kind I found his statement that she shouldn’t feel nervous
because „no matter what happens ...even if you make lots of mistakes, it
won’t be as many as I make tonight, Ok?“ That was so true!!! After the
song she got the usual t-shirts also for her brother with whom she was there. 
Then
came I’M READY and a new very upbeat version of HEAVEN, a new rock song was
born! ONE NIGHT LOVE AFFAIR, SOMEBODY and THE ONLY THING THAT LOOKS GOOD ON ME
IS YOU. Then Bryan introduces the whole band and was of to the b-stage.
There
only Mickey, Keith and Bryan performed: A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, SEVEN NIGHTS
TO ROCK, POISON IVY, SHE’S ONLY HAPPY WHEN SHE’S DANCING and WILD THING.
He always invited people on the b-stage to dance there. A really nice and great
idea.
Back on the main stage they played CLOUD # 9 and RUN TO YOU. Then he
thanked us. And because we don’t want to go home he said: „You got it“
and started with THE BEST OF ME. And now something happend what I would never
have expected. He put his guitar on the floor and jumped down in the security
gap. Everybody in the first rows could touch him. I didn’t because people
behind me pressed me to the barriers. So I had to press them backwards. I wouldn’t
fall down. So I couldn’t do it. But as I now know my chance came 10 days
later. After the song he went back on stage again and off he was.
Even if this
concert had a lot of mistakes I love it. It was so special because of these things.
So I had a very extraordinary and simply wonderful birthday.
