09/11/03 - SPORT MART PLACE, KAMLOOPS, BC Review
by Hanna Mueller: My very excited parents, best friend and myself left nelson on the 9th, ready for a 6 hour (badmusic filled) car ride to Kamloops…it’s a long way but we know it’ll be worth it in the end :) When
we finally got to kamloops, it was hard to believe that we were actually gonna
see the guys up so close (hey this is only my second gig, first for my friend)
we had 3rd row seats center stage right by bry’s mic J we got to the venue
and I did my usual “omg we gotta find our seats quick or we’ll miss
the gig even tho the show starts in an hour” thing, and took off towards
sport mart place. The doors were still closed, so we agreed to walk around the
place ( in the freeeezing cold) so we would know where to look for the guys in
case they came out after. After a full circulation of the area, we made our way
back to the entrance to find Dee and Noreen…and of course I kinda forgot
what they looked like (sorry), so had no idea who to look for. I saw this lady
handing out spirit pin things so I asked her (lol) and as it turns out it was
Dee J (good guess) I finally got to meet Noreen too, since at the last gig I never
saw the BIG FLORECENT GREEN sign they had made that said HANNA in BIG letters. After a few minutes, the nice people inside finally opened the doors and we were allowed to leave the cold and defrost ourselves. After being checked over and over for having our tickets we finally reached our seats. My friend and I disappeared to the washrooms to write BAD on our cheeks and reappeared with everyone staring at us and not getting what BAD stood for….lol Then came the lovely time of waiting for the whole thing to start…which always seems to last a lifetime, but at last the lights dimmed and they put on the film about the bc fires and introduced all the people that helped out last summer. After that Collin James bounced onstage, and even though I haven’t heard of him before I thought he was awesome! The crowd was kind of uhh…lazy in the beginning, sitting in their seats clapping along. My friend and I stood up (and totally stood out which is good J )and earned ourselves a smile :P When Collin finally finished, you could tell the crowd was becoming really excited and they left their seats to move up closer. For some reason the security didn’t mind and they stayed there for the whole show.
Then, finally, the guys came out and the crowd went mad! It was good to see teens my age so into the music, cuz here they usually don’t really like that kind of music. We were all so excited, and jumped around like mad. At first I didn’t think I would make it through the first song, cuz for some reason I was feeling really sick and my body seemed to not really enjoy they constant up and down, back and forth movement. Lol but after a while it went away (luckily) and I was back to normal.
The show continued on, and by the time EIDIDIFY arrived my friend and I were desperate to get up to the front. Everyone in front of us was sitting which kinda annoyed us, cuz why do u come to a rock show? To sit around? I didn’t think so. So we climbed over our seats and walked up to the barrier. The people behind us seemed kinda…mad. lol but we didn’t really care and sang- or- screamed along to everything I do. By the end of the song, the “sitting” people behind us seemed to be loosing their temper a bit so I asked them if they wud mind us standing there…of course the answer was “yes- we do mind” so we made our way back to our seats receiving a warm thumbs up sign from bryan on the way back J On the way back we got kinda stuck and people wouldn’t let us pass so again we had to climb over seats…that flip….ouch. We both ended up falling and I gracefully slammed my knee somewhere. It still feels kind of stiff now. Lol
It’s only love was great! With bryan pretending tina turner was there… Keith was GREAT as usual on the guitar solo, and the crowd really loved it! I blew keith a kiss sometime during the show, and he looked kinda annoyed while blowing one back…thanx keith .LOL
For when you’re gone, bryan chose a blonde girl (how did I guess?) who was really good actually. She said that she was a singer and seemed really happy to be chosen…but who wouldn’t?
Towards the end of the show, my friend and I ended up somehow getting back to the front, and it’s a good thing we did cuz bryan came down to see his fans during best of me! I wish I would have savored the moment more now, but I guess that’s kind of impossible when you’re heart is pumping at the speed of light, and your knees are ready to collapse. Bry even let me and my friend sing with him and held his mic to our mouths…. For some reason, the thing I noticed first is that he had bad breath. Hehehe but quickly getting a grip on ourselves, we gave him a big smooch. lol he then bent over us to reach some fans behind us… all we could do was pat his shoulder arghhh. How dumb is that?
When he finally got back onto the stage, everyone had finally stood up, and even the lazy bumbs in the front couldn’t stand just sitting there (but it could have been cuz they couldn’t see due to crazy people screaming and jumping up front.)
Bryan did his usual “you’re not going home yet?” thing and the crowd groaned… meaning no of course. We wanted you to stay all night! He then played straight from the heart which was awesome! The vibes were awesome and it sounded like every single person in the place was singing along. (yes, even the lazy bumbs from the front row) The guys then came out again for the last song…this time. Everyone went mad, but that was it.
We tried to meet the guys after the show, but they “snuck” out of the stadium into their van. Not wanting to annoy anyone, we let the van pass and saw bryan wave through the window. Bye bye
