02/01/04 - BEAU
RIVAGE RESORT,
BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI
Review by Trish:
Bryan Adams appeared at The Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi,
Mississippi on January 2, 2004. The theater at the Beau Rivage is
described as seating 1500. It is round with an open area in the
middle where people stand and the stage was on the end. I believe
it might have been sold out, but I'm really not sure. Anyway, this
was not a very big setting. We almost sat in the stands, but decided
to stand on the floor because the view from the stands was not the
greatest. They did have large tv screens on either side of the stage
though. When we were trying to decide where to sit in the stands
we noticed that the ushers were "guarding" the seats in
the stands on either side of the stage, giving off a vibe like,
"Don't try it people." As if! Those were not good seats.
They were almost behind the stage, at a strange angle. Probably
those were comps for some of the gamblers. Noticed they were being
served drinks by cocktail waitresses. (Maybe that helped matters.)
Anyway, at one point during the show Bryan looked over there and
commented on the view from those seats. He too had noticed the angle
of those seats, and said he had wondered if they were going to turn
them, but they never did. Bryan said to those people, "Well,
okay, if that's what you want!". I don't know why he did that.
Heh.Heh.
The audience was pretty good. Clapping and singing along. Didn't
really notice what people in the stands were doing. Don't know if
they sat glued to their seats or not. People on the floor showed
signs of life. BA's voice sounded great to me, and he didn't really
seem to be straining to sing. He did remark, however, at some point
that his throat was bothering him a bit. He said maybe it was from
celebrating New Year's too much. Realize now from reading reviews
of the following shows, he must have been coming down with something.
Set List:
One Night Love Affair
There Will Never Be Another Tonight
House Arrest
18 Til I Die
Let's Make A Night To Remember
Can't Stop This Thing We Started
Played the above straight through without stopping. All good! I
must have enjoyed it. Can't say I really remember it. Stunned to
be so close to the stage! Just couldn't believe it! Bryan then spoke
to the audience for the first time since taking the stage. He remarked
how it had been a really long time since they've been to Mississippi.
I just loved hearing him say, "Mississippi". I'm not certain
it had been that many years, (probably was though) but some guy
in the crowd shouted out, "1987!" and BA affirmed, "1987.
You were there?" And several other people were like, "Yeah!
I was there too!" And BA pointed and said, "You were there
too? And you? And you? There were four of us!" He joked,"There
were four of us. Just four. I remember it. It was very good."
Heh. Heh. Said he was really happy to be in MS. Nice of him to say
that. He seemed sincere. Said they came from Florida.. He wished
everyone a Happy New Year. He said he knew it was going to be a
great year because he was starting it in the South, which, of course,
got a big reaction from the crowd.

Cheers.screams.Woo hoo! Glad he had finally come
back. So, naturally, he had to sing:
Back To You
More BA remarks. He said that one of the fabulous things about being
in the music business is that you get to go to places you never
thought you'd visit. He talked about how he'd come from Florida
and where they were going next. How after a little time at home
they're going to India. Some kind of reaction somewhere in the crowd
to India, if you can believe it. He asked ,"Are you folks from
India?" He said that this next song is very popular in India
,at least it was in the particular household in which he had lived
while he was there. He seemed pretty amused recalling India. Then
he noticed some guy on the front row trying to take a picture. BA
acted cool and said something like "You don't have to hide
your camera, man. Hold it up. I don't care!.
. The audience
screamed as they drifted into
I'm Ready
Followed by "another popular song in India", the opening
strains of
Summer of 69
He paused briefly during those first few notes after he noticed
a woman standing on the front row , in an attempt at a joke, had
placed a piece of paper on the stage at his feet. Bryan inquired,
"Papers for what?" She told him, and he repeated, "Immigration
to Mississippi?" The audience laughed. BA looked slightly amused
and continued with the opening of
Summer of '69. The audience screamed and proceeded to sing
along for the entire song.
For some reason I blank out on recalling this next part of the show.
It's so hard to remember! I believe this is accurate:
It's Only Love. I recall he remarked that Tina Turner was
unavailable tonight. Seems like he joked that he didn't think calling
Tina Turner and asking her if she wanted come to MS would go over
so great. Ha.Ha. That we'd have to settle for Keith Scott. Fine
with us!
Everything I Do I must have enjoyed it. Honestly, I can't
remember anything about this song. I didn't even remember him singing
it until someone told me he had.
Cuts Like A Knife. I do remember the audience "nah"
"nahed" with much enthusiasm as B.A. directed them toward
increasingly louder and louder "nah nahs". Of course Keith
Scott tore it up.
When Your Gone. "C'mon up blondie!" This seems
to be the standard line for BA. The woman's name was Becky. She
was a more mature woman. She was from New Orleans. She wore black
pants and a top with a rose design on it. She turned out to be a
good choice. He asked her what she did. She drawled something like,
"I'm just loving you!" BA was like "You mean that's
all you do?" It was funny the way he said it. She also said
she jazzercized, and sort of waved her arms in the air. At some
point I recall BA made a little joke said that they were all going
to show up at Becky's at 7am tomorrow morning to jazzercize with
her
NOT! Ha. Ha. She did a very good job singing with him.
Very entertaining. BA bumped backsides with her. The look on his
face was quite funny.
Heaven. I enjoyed this upbeat version. The lights on the
backdrop looked like stars.
At this point in the show they took a short break.
Then they returned and really rocked the place with these crowd-pleasers:
Somebody
The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me is You
This Time
Cloud #9 My personal favorite of the night! To be that close!
It just doesn't get any better than this!
Run To You
Get Down Tonight (the old K.C. and the Sunshine Band Hit) I
really enjoyed this one. Totally unexpected and so much fun! Disco
BA! Audience sang along. "Do A little Dance, Make a little
love, Get Down Tonight! Get Down Tonight!" The drums were really
thumpin' on this one. He introduced the next song. He said, "Here's
a song about Mississippi." Said they had just rehearsed it
that afternoon." He explained how he had recorded it many years
ago, and had kind of forgotten the song, but they were gonna try
to do a couple of verses. (FYI: during the break a stage hand had
placed a piece of paper with the lyrics to Black Pearl at the base
of his microphone.)
Black Pearl. Sounded good to me! Audience screamed "Black
Pearl!" along with BA during the song. Again, the drums sounded
great.
Here I Am This Is Me It was great to see this one performed
live.Loved the guitar intro at the beginning.
Then it was the end of the show. He introduced the band. Shook some
hands. Signed a few autographs.
Straight from the Heart Just Bryan and the audience singing.
A real love fest!
Hated that it had to end.
Great Great Show!
