08/03/04 - LANDMARK THEATRE, SYRACUSE

Review by Alicja Bodziony:
The show was brilliant! As soon as the lights went down, we made a run for it and it sure paid off. We wound up in the first row after the pit on the left side of the stage. We had an unobstructed view of the whole stage as the pit was down below us. What a sight the whole night!!!
During the first song (which I thought was “House Arrest”, but one of the reviews in the paper stated it was “One Night Love Affair”) my sister and friend held up a sign when he came over to our side for “There Will Never Be Another Tonight”. Bryan gave a slight nod sort of saying that it’ll be there. And sure enough, the second song went into “There Will Never Be Another Tonight”. Well, we went wild :). And although there were many people sitting, the crowd was pretty loud from the very beginning and soon after, Bryan worked his magic and most were on their feet.
During “Back To You”, Bryan’s guitar string broke and so he took the string, pulled it behind the guitar and just kept playing. Keith grabbed the string and was pulling at it and Bryan was trying to run away. It was very funny! They were like two little kids playing and you couldn’t help but notice the unbelievable chemistry they have on stage. After they finished the song, Bryan broke off the guitar string and gave it to some lucky person in the first row. Well, after this, Bryan got a new acoustic guitar, one that I’ve never seen before. It was so shiny and sooooo beautiful, and the sound was so clear and intense. We were thinking that this could be the guitar used for the acoustic record.

Before he sang “This Time” he told the crowd that it was upstate NY (primarily the area he’s touring: Syracuse, Rochester and Albany) that gave him his first break in the US, and that he hasn’t forgotten that and is thankful! I noticed during the show that Norm is really getting to be a part of the band. He and Mickey are always having a good laugh and I just love his style and facial expressions when he plays :). Gary seems to be the quiet, shy one, but fits very well with the band.
Bryan ended the show acoustically with “Straight From The Heart” and “Depend On Me”. We’ve known all along that we could depend on him and never doubted it, but hearing Bryan sing “Depend On Me” was just divine! I should also mention that my friend and I both caught one of Mickey’s drumsticks but being the wonderful, nice person she is, she let me have it as it was her fifth catch. And for the highlight of the show for me......Bryan pointed at us and gave us a thumbs-up right before he left the stage. I need not say more, we were in heaven! :)
After the show, we saw Mickey, Norm and Gary whisked away in a limo and then we waited for a very long, long time, and it was cold (snowing a bit actually), but did eventually meet up with the man. He got in the car and each one of us that was waiting got something signed or a picture taken. I got a CD booklet signed but a funny thing happened to my friend. She had a picture of her and Bryan from a few years back she wanted signed. She gives him the photo and he looks at it and says he won’t sign it. She’s pleading with him and he says you look great and I guess he didn’t like the way he looked cause he tore the photo right in the middle and kept his half. Grinning from ear to ear, he signed her half. So, she has a picture of herself signed by Bryan :)
My sis and I got the last picture with him while the car was still in motion, hopefully it’ll come out. I’ll never forget the way he said “byyyeeeee” with those big blue eyes while the window was rolling up, and off he went. A while later, Keith came out and we got to chat with him for a few minutes, what a sweetie, and off to the hotel we went.
