09/03/04 - AUDITORIUM THEATRE, ROCHESTER

Review by Alicja Bodziony:
On to Rochester, this night he gave it his ALL!!! They were on fire!!! It has got to be one of the best shows I’ve seen. We were seated in the 4th row thanks to Angelina.
Interestingly, they started with “There Will Never Be Another Tonight”. Never heard him start with that before, geez, it got us thinking………could it have been my sister’s sign from the night before? Nah, probably just wishful thinking :) but we were ever so grateful he kept it in the set list. Thank You Bryan! He sang it with such verve and then those lyrics “....so come on now let the good times roll” – did they ever! During “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started” we were in for a few laughs. Bryan kept motioning to Keith to come sing with him in the mic. Keith came over and then kept trying to run away, at one point Bryan pulled him by the shirt to him. It was hilarious, they were in such a witty, humorous mood. Bryan was also putting his finger in Keith’s mouth when they were trying to hold a note, and Keith was giving Bryan devil horns (I got a picture of that to prove it :) ). They were just having so much fun up there. There was also lots of guitar action, leg-kicking and tongue-sticking throughout the night.
Now, I’ve been to quite a number of shows, but I’ve got to say that “Summer Of ‘69” that night was the best I’ve ever heard it. It was staggering! I think it has got to be that new acoustic guitar. Never knew one could play a guitar like that soooo fast. I couldn’t stop looking at Bryan’s hands. It totally ROCKED! Oh, and did I mention that acoustic guitar :)? If it has anything to do with the acoustic version of the new album then we are in for a real treat. Believe me, it emits such a sound that you wouldn’t believe. “House Arrest” was somewhere in the middle of the set (which is another reason why we wondered why he started with “There Will Never Be .....” ? hhhmmmmm, I’m thinking too much...lol) and they just rocked the hell out of it. Keith’s solos were unforgettable, he was so into them, and they went on, and on, and on, what a musician!
Now for the highlight of the show: Bryan introduced a friend of his named Bruce, who was sitting in the second row, and said that it was he who played his first song on the radio in the US and thanked him for this and also the entire northeastern area for giving him his start in the US. He then dedicated the next song to Bruce. It was “Take Me Back” ! WOW! Was that ever cool. He didn’t sing the long stretched out version but it was awesome! Totally did not expect that. We also got “This Time” that night as Bryan seemed to be going a bit back in time :). Lauren, the WYG girl did a fantastic job and it was nice to learn that she is a fellow baddie :).

All too soon the show ended with “Straight From The Heart” and “Depend On Me”. The crowd turned out to be very good despite many of them sitting halfway through the show. I think Bryan even commented on how he was glad to see everyone up on their feet cause they’ve been sitting for a long time. Sorry to hear Paul that you had people behind you wanting you to sit down, we had the same problem in Atlantic City, but hell noooo we weren’t about to sit down! I just don’t understand these people? Did they think they were at a symphony or something?
Anyway, the reality of catching Bryan after the show the night before still hadn’t fully sunk in and here we were seeing him after the Rochester gig. Didn’t wait too long for him and as with the night before everyone got a chance to see him if only for a few seconds. Now imagine Bryan, in his sexy voice, saying in a prolonged manner “byyeeeee girlllssssss”, and then he was gone. On to Albany.
