22/07/04 - HARBOUR STATION,
ST JOHN, NB Review by Marie Stevens: Thursday night
in Saint John wasn't as hot as the night before, but just as great, if not better.
I had balloons to wish a happy fiftieth to Keith, and had to explain to some what
the significance of the balloons meant. Again Colin James was spectacular and
was received warmly. Again, the WYG girl was dressed in red and came from the
same area of the venue. I guess red is Bryan's fav color and he selects those
who don't have the front row seats. This girl was from Newfoundland and sang opera
and serenaded him first with something by Domenico Scarlatti. She didn't quite
know what she was doing up there and made up some of the words to the song, to
which Bryan responded that that was his job!. After a couple of repeats of the
chorus, she caught on. She received an ovation when she got back to her seat.
Another highlight of the show was a sign that caught Bryan and Keith's eye while
they were singing. Enough to stop them in mid stream and start to laugh. Bryan
even had the girls to hold it up again and took a picture of it at the end of
the show. I was only a section away on the same side, so I don't know what it
said. Again as in Moncton the night before, the show came too quickly to an end
and Bryan thanked everyone for coming out. Realizing how age creeps up on people,
I hope retirement isn't in their vocabulary just yet, but with family and other
commitments, one never knows. Sure hope there are many more gigs to perform before
they set out to pasture! After being present at both shows, I realized how lucky
and blessed I was to have had the opportunity to once again witness such great
performers. Sure I haven't met Bryan and never sang with him, but that is so minuscule
compared to the evenings spent. I sure hope that all Bryan fans will have the
opportunity some day to be present at a concert as it truly is a night to remember!!
I know some fans will never have the chance and only can keep him alive in their
dreams, but keep dreaming as dreams do come true! So from a devoted and thankful
fan, take care! ******************************************* Story
by Sandra Davis: A Newfoundlander-turned-Saint Johner made the most of an opportunity
to perform with Canadian singer Bryan Adams, "superstarring" her way
to the stage at Mr. Adams' invitation, serenading him with a little ditty by Domenico
Scarlatti, even doing an intimate "bum jiggy" with the celebrity. Nadine
Brown's seven-minute performance with the star had the audience howling and screaming
for more. Mr. Adams rocked Harbour Station on Thursday night. The
22-year-old Ms Brown, who graduated from Memorial University this year with a
Bachelor of Music, would have stayed on stage all night. "Because
I'm a performer, I'm not shy. I just ate up every second of it and did the Superstar
thing the whole way across the stage." The Superstar routine is a Saturday
Night Fever skit that turned into the 1999 movie Superstar starring Molly Shannon. Ms.
Brown's stint on stage began when Mr. Adams yelled to the audience that he was
looking for someone to sing with. "Everyone was
jumping and I was dancing around like a wild woman trying to get him to notice
me and he did and called me down. I was so excited." When
she told the crowd she was from Newfoundland, the audience went crazy. "Newfoundlanders
are everywhere and we're so patriotic." At first,
Mr. Adams looked at her as if she was a little crazy as she did her dance across
the stage but after asking her if she would like to sing something, she launched
into the first stanza of a Scarlatti piece called Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento, about
a young boy teasing the girl that he likes. "It's
just a playful little ditty," said Ms. Brown. "It's fun, a bit upbeat
and it's the first thing that came into my head. "I
sort of got down on one knee and sang it at him." Mr.
Adams then asked her if she was ready to sing one of his songs. "I
said, 'I don't know if I know all the words, but I can make them up. And he said,
'no, that's my job.' "Then we did a little bum
jiggy, where we put our bums together and shook them around and then he kind of
flicked me off and we just laughed." The duo
then sang Mr. Adams' song When You're Gone. "I made up a couple of words
on my own, but it was good," said Ms. Brown. After
her performance, she was escorted backstage by one of Mr. Adams' roadies. "The
guy said I did an amazing job and that I belong on stage. "It
took me about 25 minutes to get back to my seat with people trying to stop me." On
Friday, as she walked uptown, people were still pointing at her saying "that's
the girl," she said. "It doesn't get any
better than that. As far as I'm concerned, he's one of Canada's biggest superstars.
I was thrilled to meet him, I was thrilled to sing with him and I'm hoping that
someone who knows him will call me and say come on tour or make some kind of connection. "I
would love it." |
