ARENA, NEWCASTLE Review
by Steven Stanley After
the Manchester show we stopped just up the M6 in Lancaster and got some sleep...
however early on in the morning I was woken up by Ade wanting a quick game of
'Pro Evo' on the PS2 before we setoff for Newcastle! We got to the venue fairly
early, although there were some people queuing already. We entertained ourselves
during the day by having a wander into Newcastle and getting lost while doing
a bit of shopping and getting some food. It was soon
time for the gates to go anyway, and just before they did, Gary and Stuart turned
up from 'The Bryan Adams
Experience' as it was their local show. The doors opened and we were told
to walk (yeah right get running everyone!) down a corridor to ANOTHER set of doors
where we were made to queue for a good 15 to 20 minutes. It was then a free for
all to get to the barrier once these we all opened at once from around the arena.
Luckily we got off fairly lucky (I think they had noticed we had been there before
most other people there) and I got front row centre stage... as did most people
who should have, which was cool. As I missed the support
act 'Speedway' in Manchester due to traffic problems I was still yet to see them,
but when they came on they were really good. One of the best support acts BA has
ever had in my opinion. Anyway Speedway were done and then it was showtime...
...Bryan
opened with the same songs as in Manchester, once again the new stuff sounding
fantastic at the start of the show. Then after 'Can't Stop' Bryan mentioned that
it was soundman Rob's birthday (it was bass players Norm's birthday the previous
night in Manchester) and demanded he got onstage for us to sing to him. He was
too shy and wouldn't come so Bryan made up a short bluesey ditty for him called
'Rob's Birthday'... it was so funny! 'Kids' was amazing as always and we really
got the bounce going on 'Back To You'! Once again, just before '69 bryan commented
that the song is not about the year 1969. The first
WYGG was rubbish... her name was Angie from Scotland and she came across as quite
arogant... she didn't even try to sing with Bryan up onstage even if she did claim
to know the song she wasn't even reading the words given to her! Bryan wasted
no time and quickly escorted her offstage. He picked another singer... Michelle
from Cumbria and she did a really good job this time. In
the encores Bryan played 'The Best Of Me' and we had to pull him up onto the barrier
next to us. Steph instantly grabbed his ass for a feel and it was there for all
to see on the jumbo screens! Bryan then sang word for word with her up close for
a verse as well. When leaving the stage for the last time the band now have a
new way of saying goodbye as well. Each band member takes it in turns to do their
own little goodbye skit... Mickey's is just sooooooo funny! Keith's raises a chuckle
as well hehe... infact they all do!
'Flying'
was dedicated to all the soldiers in Iraq again and 'All For Love sounded even
better than the night before'. Bryan got such a reception after 'Straight From
The Heart' he decided to play another song. He started to play 'Fog On The Tyne'
but he didn't know the words to the verse so he couldn't continue.... was sooooo
funny though! Instead we were treated to 'Depend On Me' which I never get tired
of hearing... love that song. So a super long acoustic set to end the show...
really enjoyed this show. Don't know why it just had something special about it.
The band really are enjoying themselves up there and they are so much fun to watch
these days. Setlist: Room Service Open Road 18
