27/01/05 - PALAU SANT JORDI,
BARCELONA Review
by 'El Periodico' - TRANSLATED: Bryan Adams revives his success in BCN Bryan
Adams last night celebrated a welcome return to Barcelona in the Palau Sant Jordi,
before more than 11,000 people. The singer and Canadian guitarist stopped in some
songs of his latest disc, Room service, but all the Adams hits of the 80's and
90's were in there as well. Accompanied by a compact band that knows its job,
Adams is one of the artists of rock with a more popular repertoire. The author
of hits like Heaven, It's only love, Somebody and Summer of 69 paid itself in
his more glorious past throughout an energetic concert that she had to the guitar
like central instrument. There was, nevertheless, diverse incursions in acoustic
sonoridades and the prescribed quota of ballads that encouraged the lighters to
come out. The Palau Sant Jordi, the room that has been welcoming to him for more
than one decade in its regular visits in Barcelona, applauded each song of a repertoire
filled with radio hits from the past 20 years.. Bryan Adams opened in Barcelona
a tour of seven performances in Spain and Portugal, prelude of an European expedition
that will make the next spring. Tonight he plays in Madrid. ******************** Review
by Vern Bueno (EFE) - TRANSLATED: Bryan Adams extasy with two hours of nostalgia
to its Barcelonian public Bryan Adams opened up his latest tour on Thursday
in the Palau Sant Jordi of Barcelona. He delivered everything what it was expected
of him and more, a collection of hits with which reigned many years in highest
of the charts, he played to fans for over 2 hours. The
Palau gave a lively welcoming to the tour of his latest Album, 'Room Service',
a situation that doesn't really reveal the current status of the album, since
it has not obtained a high chart position or had the sales his past albums have
had. In spite of it, it's a great disc with Adams
doing what he does best: songs rock of all the life with an alive rate, mixed
with sweet ballads. A formula that ensured the success to him, but that now it
does not finish materializing. Between half of the 80's and most of the 90's,
Adams was one of the great kings of the pop world. Albums such as ' Reckless'
and ' Waking Up The Neighbours' obtained multi-million sales, and their songs
for sound tracks got him 3 nominations of an Oscar to him. Altogether, the Canadian
takes more than 60 million sold discs anywhere in the world. But the faucet of
the successes was cut, they lowered the sales and they began the problems with
the record companies and the distribution that always affect all the old glories
that no longer render like before. The things no longer have gone to him so well
and good proof of it is that it has taken six years in publishing a new album,
taking refuge in the concerts, where always it can rescue his old subjects. Its
putting him in the scene.
Adams
went precise and with force to the scene. Shining its habitual black t-shirt and
jeans (look that always has characterized to him and that moves away of the eccentric
customs of other stars del to him rock), attacked the opening song with conviction...'Room
Service' and 'Open Road', singles of advance of its last album, received well
by the public. After giving credit of which the subjects of 'Room Service' hold
the type, Adams caused the delirium of the spectators with 'Let's Make to Night
To Remember', one of the great ballads. The public
wanted to become surfeited itself with the innocent ballads of love of the Canadian,
to dance his great hymns rock, to ignite his burners to the wind and, really,
to remember better times. In this sense, Adams did not defraud. Armed with his
guitar, he shelled all his great successes perfectly, knowing, after 25 years
doing of musician, which loves its public. 'Kids Wanna Rock', 'Back To You', 'Cuts
Like to Knife', ' Everything I Do', 'Summer of '69' and many hits, was more falling
the one after another one. The stage scene was simple, with a simple game of white
lights, the black scene without decoration some and three great screens that offered
images of the concert to the public. A sobriety that also transmitted the support
band, formed only by four members (guitar, bass, drums and keyboards) whose sound
was crude and direct, something that the rasposa voice and the aesthetic something
grunge of Adams are thankful. After two hours of performance, Bryan Adams closed
with four songs interpreted in hearing aid foreseeable although correct concert,
that it demonstrated the experience of Adams. As it
says in one of his better songs, 'Summer of 69', "When I look back now, that
summer seemed to last forever, and if I had the choice, yeah I'd always wanna
be there". Although Adams composed this oda to nostalgia makes a few lustrums
already, could well assign itself to the present of the moved away musician of
their years of successes. After this concert in Barcelona, the tour of Bryan Adams
continues by Spain with four appointments: Friday in the Vistalegre pavilion of
Madrid, the 3 of February in the Palace of the Crossbeams of Vigo, day 4 in Multipurpose
of Vigo and finally day 5 in the Bizkaia Sand of Bilbao.
