04/02/05 - MULTIUSOS SANCHEZ PARAISOS, SALAMANCA

Review by Alexandra Lotz:
In Salamanca we drove directly to the venue and what a surprise – it looked really good. I had expected something like Vigo but no, it was almost new with modern materials and glass all around. There were 4 gates and we were the first ones to show up. As it was still freezing cold we put our blankets and sleeping bags in pole position and started waiting. It turned out to be an easy day. Gigging in the middle of nowhere has advantages ;) Cuki was so nice to give me a small tour through the historic center and one by one we had a quick shower in a hotel she had booked to take a nap after driving. During the afternoon I watched our spot and how the venue was prepared. The architect must have been a freak like us to build it in glass. The cars arrived early and I was wondering if Bryan wanted to do the soundcheck himself. He did and it was sensational. They played NOWHERE FAST – 2 times !! I was freaking out at the window doing all these “wow-cool-do it”-signs whenever somebody was looking up. All crazed I returned to the gates and started running when they opened. Long ramps with 2 or 3 180° curves led down to the ground floor and it was slippery like hell. Several people lost their feet and I just told myself that I didn´t wait all day to kiss the ground right now. It was almost as hilarious as our sliding run down the icy slope in Grindelwald last year :)))
Anyway, I ended up at my fav spot right in front of Bryan, a little to Keith´s side, surrounded by lots of nice and well behaved people. Great ! As in Vigo the barrier was higher than usual but it had steps for Bryan to give us the best of him. And that´s exactly what he did. It was a wonderful show, next to Porto (because of the Portuguese atmosphere and BLESSING IN DISGUISE) my no.1 of the week. The sound was brilliant and the guys seemed so fresh and relaxed as if they had been on holiday before. There was a lot of interaction and eye contact so that I forgot everything around. I was just incredibly happy to be there. Sometimes those spontaneous activities are simply the best ones. And then we got to hear NOWHERE FAST and it was so much fun singing along. Ya anytime, babe ;) Sadly the song replaced NOT ROMEO NOT JULIET. I know it´s demanding, but can´t we have both, Bryan ? I was also missing the Spanish guitar. Bryan did his best to make the other ones sound Spanish but it´s always special to have Keith playing songs like I´M READY.
At midnight the show was over and all of a sudden it was my b-day. It didn´t matter as I was doing this non stop flight on cloud no.9. The whole week felt like b-day and x-mas in one. It was unbelievable.
So we went to the hotel, packed our stuff and hit the road to Bilbao. We knew that queuing there would be crazy and so we were not cool enough to spend the night in Salamanca.

Bryan uses a different black strat for the first time in 7 years... nice to see him using different guitars again

WYGG time

Bryan takes a drink mid-acoustic set in the encores

'Straight From The Heart' with harmonica... doesn't get much better
