29/07/05 - PROMO: RADIO SHOW, MINNEAPOLIS, MN

Review by Julie:
Thursday night before the concert, I got an e-mail from this girl asking about if anyone in MN knows about the book signing at Border Books (popular book store), in Minneapolis at noon. I thought, cool my chance to meet BA in person, I've been a fan for 20+ years. So, I started to make plans. I have two children.I was bringing my son Jacob with me to the concert, so I knew he'd be coming with me. In my plan making I decided to look at BA's website to see what he might be up to for Friday. I saw he had a really tight schedule, at 3:00pm he would be doing an acoustic appearance for a local radio station. Just on a whim I wrote to the director to ask (never hurts to ask), if there was room for a 30 something fan. It was getting late at night and I needed to go to sleep, but I thought if I couldn't do the acoustic thing, at least I could go to the book signing and see him there. So I went to bed thinking of what might be! The next morning I got up and went on line right away. I had a message from Carrie from the station, but I checked a couple of e-mails before hers because I didn't want to be disappointed! When I first read Carrie's e-mail it said "thanks for asking about Bryan Adams gig", then she wrote, "as luck would have it we have a spot for you and one guest". Then she gave all the info about where he was going to be, and what we needed to do. I couldn't believe my good luck! I called my best friend Stephanie (she was coming to the concert, too). I needed to ask her if her babysitter could come earlier. Then explained the whole thing. Steph said "Your the luckiest person I know"! And I really felt like it. She got a sitter, Carrie said we can all come. And off we went!!! I dropped my daughter off at my mom's, and Jacob and I picked up Steph. We got down town Minneapolis MN about 2:20pm, we needed to be there between 2:30-2:45pm. We were a little excited! This nice man escorted us in to a nice room, where the walls were lined with black drapes for a back drop. There where three rows of chairs and about 10 chairs in each row. Also, there was a stool and a chair up front with a couple of microphones. I thought, this is going to be cool!!! Carrie came around and introduced herself to us and gave Stephanie and Jacob a new Room Service CD (I already had one). then I got up to go to the back of the room where there was water bottles, I grabbed two, and headed back to my seat. Then one of the radio announcers said aloud, "Hear he comes". He came in right behind me. OH MY GOD!!! I carefully walked back to my front row seat (off to his left), and he said "there are way too many guys in this room". We all laughed of course! Then he got out his guitar and started to tune it. The radio people asked him a few questions, and said this was going to be broadcast later on the radio. Then he sang "This Side of Paradise" and two other old songs. The radio people asked him questions in between songs and before I knew it, it was over. We were able to get autograph and pictures. Bryan was really nice to my son Jacob, shook his hand and asked if he plays the guitar. Jacob and I stood next to him and I stood next to my son. What a great feeling! I couldn't believe how calm I felt, I thought I would freak out, but Bryan has this calming about him, I descibe meeting him as surreal! What a dream come true for me. After the pics, and autographs, we headed toward St. Paul, Midway Stadium. We got a bite to eat and off to the concert we went. We got there just before BA went on. We stood to the left of the stage against a barricade. GREAT VIEW! BA usually stands at that side of the stage and he did! We all had a wonderful time rocking with his songs. I was a little disappointed he didn't do more new ones. I will never forget this awesome day. Thanks for letting me experience it with you all over again. Julie
