04/02/06 - MMRDA GROUNDS BANDRA KURLA COMPLEX, MUMBAI

Review by Komal Mehta (Rediff.com):
Bryan Adams: Thrice the fun!

For fans of rocker Bryan Adams in Mumbai, the month of February couldn't have come soon enough. We had begun counting down the days a long time ago, playing back old albums in anticipation of his third performance in the city. When he did arrive on February 4 at Bandra's MMRDA grounds, we realised it was all worth the wait.

Outside the venue, thousands had lined up to create incredibly longest queues. It took people around 2 hours just to get in. The show began at around 7 pm, but people were still being admitted until after 7:30 pm.

It began with performances by winners of the Campus Rock Idols contest. Some in the audience cheered, others jeered, hoping Bryan would come soon. They had to wait some more though, as countless advertisements by sponsors followed.

By 7:30 pm, I had polished off two packets of chips and downed two Pepsis. Still no Bryan. Suddenly, there was a blur of black on stage, followed by a familiar voice saying "Wassup" before the opening chords of the track Room Service came on. It took the crowd a minute to register the fact that Bryan Adams was on. The applause that followed was deafening.

From then on, it was a roller coaster ride. The hits came on fast and furious -- Let's make a night, Only thing that looks good on me, Everything I do, Life is an open road, All for love, Can't stop this thing we started and perennial favourites.

An excellent performer, Bryan had the crowd on its feet, compelling us all to interact throughout. Whether it was making us sing alternate lines (almost the entire song in the case of Summer of 69), dancing with his guitar, or making everyone get out their cell phones and wave them in the dark -- he kept the fans involved. At one point, he stepped off stage and shook hands with everyone in the front row while singing "You'll always have the best of me…"

But none of this matched the hysteria when he picked someone from the crowd to sing When you're gone with him! The lucky girl of the evening was someone called Amruta, a resident of Chembur doing her Masters in Pharmacy. Bryan couldn't get her name right, but introduced her saying "Please welcome Ruta, who is doing her masters in chemicals." The girl got an embrace from him and, to her credit, performed the song pretty well for someone who looked so stunned. Bryan also gave her two T-shirts.

Other highlights included some serious playing from lead guitarist Keith Scott, making Kids wanna rock even more memorable. At about 9:20 pm, after introducing his band members, Bryan left the stage. He was back a few minutes later, mischievous smile in place, for an encore -- Cloud no 9.

Two more songs, and he was off again. This time, nobody moved. We knew he'd be back. And he was, with the popular Please forgive me -– a first for a Mumbai show.

A Summer of '69 in the Spring of '06

Mumbai: Bryan Adams rocked Mumbai on Saturday night. The Canadian singer hit the right note with the crowd during the three-hour show of the Third Time Lucky tour.

The serpentine queues outside the Bandra Kurla complex in Mumbai were the first indication of what one would expect from a Bryan Adams concert. And if you thought the Canadian rock-star's popularity had faded, you couldn't have been more wrong.

From eight to eighty, the rockstar took them all back to the Summer of '69 in February of '06.

The Superfuzz band from Delhi, winners of Campus Rock Idols 2005 opened for Bryan Adams, but that was not enough to pacify the screaming crowds.

Performing along with a band, Bryan Adams enthralled crowds with non-stop classic hits from his new album, the career-spanning collection Anthology.

In India for the third time with his aptly titled, Third Time Lucky tour, Bryan swept even the resident crowd-pullers off their feet.

"I love his music, his singing. This is the first time that I am on the other side of the stage," Priyanka Chopra, actor, says.

Having toured India on two previous occasions, Bryan has a large Indian fan base and if one needed any proof of this, the mammoth crowds in Mumbai were enough.

It was a night to remember for many fans of Bryan Adams, and if you couldn't make it to the concert, well, please forgive him.

Bryan makes it a night to remember

FOR THOUSANDS of fans, Saturday evening became a night to remember as Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams got the audience at the MMRDA grounds rocking to his beat.

The crowd went berserk when he started off with Room Service. The euphoria was similar to the last time Adams was in India almost two years ago. The singer began the first part of the show with numbers like This Time, 18 till I Die and Open Road. Around 5,000-odd fans went into a tizzy when he said, "You look fantastic tonight and I am happy to be back in India." Calling the crowd ˜his inspiration", the singer invited them to sing along to some of his famous tracks - Summer of 69, Everything I Do I Do It For You and Let's Make A Night To Remember. The concert was lit up throughout with lights flashing from many camera phones.

One section had been turned into a Canadian Lounge by the Canadian consulate. Top-notch head honchos like Raj Naik, of NDTV, Vijay Lazarus of Universal, Suresh Thomas of Crescendo and some consulate members and government officials were found rocking at the Lounge. Other fans outside the gates were seen swaying to the music from a distance. Twenty fans who won various contests also got a chance to meet Adams backstage before the two-hour show which started at 7.45 pm.

Bryan Adams croons his way into Mumbai's heart

Mumbai: Bryan Adams, one of the most loved pop singers of all times, crooned his way into the metropolis's heart Saturday as he performed here during his third India tour.

At central Mumbai's MMRDA grounds in Bandra-Kurla complex, Adams enthralled thousands who waited patiently for him with some of his all time hits as well as a few new numbers from his latest album during the "Third Time Lucky" tour.

The Canadian star, who holds the record for the longest running single in British music history with his hit "Everything I do, I do it for you", after turning many a knee to jelly in Karachi, serenaded fans in here and will now proceed to woo Bangaloreans Sunday.

The 10-time Grammy awards winner sang most of his all time hits like "So Far So Good", "18 till I die" and "Summer of 69" - many of them being anthems for millions the world over - apart from his latest numbers.

Starting at the age of 18 with a one-dollar contract, the singer today has, apart from the Grammies, 12 platinum hits around the world and album sales exceeding 55 million copies in the 25 years since.

Performing in India after a gap of three years, Adams sang numbers from "Anthology" - a two-CD collection of 33 classic hits spanning over 20 years and three new recordings, "18 Till I Die", "When You're Gone" and "So Far So Good".

While the gates to the MMRDA grounds opened at around 6 p.m. and the concert, which was scheduled to begin by 8 p.m. began more than two hours late, the venue was jam-packed with his fans who were not satisfied with the opening performance of the band Supermuff - winners of the Campus Rock Idol competition.
