by someguysfromschool: Where shall I start! A fantastic concert - "the
best day of my life!" lol. I did 3 things yesterday I thought I would never
do; 1) I found myself waiting in the queue near the gates, 2) Standing FRONT row,
and 3) Getting a high-five from Bryan! lol. The day for me started at 1:30pm,
when we left home for Bridgend and arrived around 3pm, where we saw only about
100 people or so in the queue, and as we believed the gates were opening at 4pm,
we joined the back. As it turned out they didn't open until 5pm. I have never
been that close to the front at ANY concert and I was expecting chaos when they
let us in. How wrong I was. Nobody ran, and everything was smooth - great organisation.
We, (myself and my dad(my mates dont like BA-lol)) got a good spot at the barrier
on the right of the stage - by Keiths far mike. It was a great spot, and for those
who queued from silly-o'clock needn't have. The place took a while to fill up,
with everyone sitting down on the floor. The first support act came on "10
Reasons To Live" they were OK, but nothing special. Then Beverly Night came
on - she had a great voice, but it wasn't my kind of music. She did a really good
job of warming the crowd for BA, making comments like; "he's got a great
show for you tonight." Then the crew came out and cleared the stage. It was
nearly time.
I
heard some people cheer, and then saw Mickey and Norm in the corner, next out
came Keith and the Bryan. He bowed and launched into SFSG. I like the song, but
Room Service wasa better opener. The studio verison of SFSG has some cool bass
in it, but that wasn't present live - it was more rocked up. Then came Somebody
- another crowd favourite. Bryan came over to our side then, and posed for a photo
I took of him. Having never been so close in a concert, it was weird to me to
have all these people on stage only about 4ft from me! lol. Great though! I think
it was about here that Bryan said that he had come on early because the night
before they had to be off stage by a certain time, and they wanted to make up
for it tonight by playing longer. Back To You was great as usual - and the bounce
wasn't very good from what I could see, but I tried my best :)
It
was nice to hear 69 rocked up again on Bryans Gretsch. It was a great version
with Bryan & Keith high-fiving each other - just like on the SFSG video. Bryan
picked a Welsh girl from Abergavenny (sp?) who was a dog groomer named Claire.
It was funny, as BA couldn't pronounce where she lived. She was possibly THE best
WYGG I have ever seen - she knew all of the words - even the little solo bits.
I think the band were surprised as well. She was brilliant!
She's
Only Happy was next which started with a little battle between B&K. Keith
did his "dancing" lol. He tried to spin his guitar round his neck but
failed, so tryed again and did it - it was great to watch.
Bryan
introduced the next song with "This is the dirtiest, filthiest, meaniest
sounding guitar I have" and then launched into "Heart On Fire"
which was just fantastic, with Bryan and Keith on the floor during the solo. It
was just great. Heaven started with the piano intro, as it used to. Everyone
was singing along. BA invited Beverly Knight back on stage to duet with him
for "Its Only Love" she sang it great! Towards the end, Keith realised
that Beverly could sing the note he was playing, so for the next few minutes of
so, kept playing higher and higher notes until Beverly could take it anymore!
lol. it was great to watch, but a bit painful on the ears!
Bryan
came down for the "Best Of Me" and I was able to get several high-fives.
He then sent the band on their way and did his acoustic set, which I always think
is the best way to end. He sang "Please Forgive Me," "Straight
From The Heart" and "I Think About You," which was just great.
I
have only seen ITAY on the unplugged DVD, so I knew it was a treat - I hope someone
bootlegged it, as it was a great great version. Afterwards, we went around to
the back to wait for the band. Bryan came out, but just drove past waving - fair
enough, he would have probably got mobbed! Didn't hang around then, just went
home. All in all it was a great concert, and I will definatley be in the Front
row again - so much interaction!

Pre-show
article by BBC Wales: Rocker Adams makes Bridgend debut
Canadian
rock star Bryan Adams is expected to help draw a crowd of 15,000 to Bridgend on
Friday night. Adams, best known for his Robin Hood film theme (Everything I Do)
I Do It For You, is playing at the Brewery Field as part of his European tour.
He is being supported by British singer Beverley Knight at the home of the Celtic
Crusaders rugby league club. The club's Ian Golden called it fantastic to land
the show and said it could lead to more in future.
It
is one of just six UK dates Adams is playing on his tour, and is the first time
such a large concert has been staged in the town. Mr Golden said: "When we
heard Bryan Adams was touring, we put in a bid to say we could hold it and they
chose us. "It's fantastic news for us and who knows, we may hold other big
concerts in the future after this one." "I don't see why not, especially
if this one is a success, which I've no doubt it will be.
On
the map
"It's going to put Bridgend on the map
for other international stars and I'm sure there will be people looking at this
and if we do a good job here we hope others will be interested in coming."
Most tickets were sold before Friday, but some are still available. "This
is the biggest event we've had here and they've been setting up all week,"
said Mr Golden. "There is a bar which must go along the width of the entire
pitch and we've had to get 40 bar staff to make sure everyone can get served.
"It is an outdoor stadium and we've been blessed with the weather, especially
after the last few weeks.
"God must be a Bryan
Adams fan!"
Bridgend councillor Matthew Voisey
called it excellent news for the area. "The fact that Bryan Adams has chosen
to play in Bridgend rather than in neighbouring Swansea or Cardiff demonstrates
the area's potential," said Mr Voisey. "Bridgend has been undergoing
a multi-million pound regeneration over the last 10 years with pedestrianisation
in the town centre, a state-of-the-art new bus station and fast, efficient rail
and road links among the many developments that have taken place. "I'm sure
that local traders and the entertainment industry will welcome this significant
boost and hope that it is the first of many such events." The concert means
the rugby league game planned on Sunday has had to move venue for the day to nearby
Maesteg RFC. The doors for the concert open at 1600 BST and various road closures
have been put in place.

Review
by Gareth Morgan (Western Mail): Adams makes a night to remember TWENTY-ONE
years have passed since Bryan Adams scored his first UK chart hit with Run to
You. And his arrival at the Brewery Field saw Bridgend come of age as a concert
venue as 13,000 fans rocked to the sound of the denim-clad superstar.
The
Groover from Vancouver, with two guitarists, a drummer and keyboard player, gave
an electrifying two-hour performance.
Opening with
So Far So Good, he launched into a succession of appropriately-named tunes like
Let's Make a Night to Remember, Cloud Number Nine and the chant-along 18 Til I
Die, a sentiment which surely says it all about the evergreen Adams.
The
crowd erupted when they heard the unmistakable opening chords of Summer of 69,
singing every word back at their hero, who was clearly delighted.
It
was still daylight as he swapped one of his array of "filthy, dirty-sounding"
electric guitars for an acoustic to perform (Everything I Do) I Do It for You
- a song you either love or hate after it spent 16 weeks at number one.
Then
it was back to up-tempo rock with The Only Thing that Looks Good on Me is You
and Run to You, complete with energetic sprinting, guitar and all, from one side
of the extended stage to the other - almost the width of the rugby pitch.
Beverley
Knight, who had warmed up the crowd with a stunning vocal performance of her own,
joined Adams on stage for It's Only Love, the raunchy duet he recorded with Tina
Turner.
It was a night Claire, a dog groomer from
Abergavenny, will never forget as she was plucked from the crowd to become what
die-hard Adams fans call the When You're Gone girl, singing the harmony made famous
by former Spice Girl Mel C and winning a kiss from her hero.
An
entirely acoustic finale, including Please Forgive Me and Straight From the Heart,
showed the power of a simple six-string combined with that gravel voice. Pure
Heaven!

Bryan
opens with 'So Far So Good'
Bryan
changes the set a little from last nights gig in Huddersfield. 'Lonely Nights'
is ditched to open up a slot for 'The Best Of Me' at the end. No harmonica solo
to start the show and 'All For Love' is replaced by 'I Think About You', which
hasn't been played since February '98 on the 'Plugged In Tour' across Canada.
It's also the first time he's done it acoustically (at a slow tempo!)
Bryan
rocks out on a stack of speakers as high as most peoples houses.
