28/10/06 - PRESIDENTE INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL, GUADALAJARA

(Above) Mina gets to meet Bryan in his Guadalajara hotel before he leaves for the Puebla gig that afternoon

Review by Mina:
My name is Mina. I’m 26 yeas old and I live in Guadalajara, Mexico. I’ve been a big fan of Bryan since 1992. Bryan first concert in Guadalajara, Mexico was on October 27th, 2006. This was also my first Bryan’s concert. …I hope not the last one.

I won a contest on a local radio station and I got the incredible chance to meet Bryan!!!!!!!!

I was supposed to meet Bryan before the concert, but because he was late I was told that I will meet him after the concert. But Bryan left the concert right away and didn’t got the chance to meet him that day.

Actually I though I had missed the chance to meet him. But the next day the guy from the radio station called me and told me that I could still meet him at the hotel before he left to the airport. I was working that Saturday, but I left immediately my office and went to the hotel.

I arrived at the lobby at 1:30 pm and the photographer from the radio station was already there. The other winner never arrived, but instead, a few minutes later a woman called Adriana arrived. She was a real fan. She brought 2 roses and a bottle of tequila for Bryan. She also brought the Anthology cd for Bryan to sign.

I also had prepared a gift for Bryan. I know he is a vegetarian and I read somewhere that he likes Pesto. So I prepared some Pesto for him. Pesto is an Italian sort of dressing used in pasta and salads.

Around 2:30 pm we were introduced to Bryan’s manager. Not Bruce Allen. I don’t remember his name. I told him I had won a contest to meet Bryan and that we were waiting for him.

Around 2:45 the members of the band, one by one, came down at the lobby for the check out. I only said hello to Keith. He was very nice with me. But I totally forgot to take a picture with him or asked him for his autograph. I guess I was too focus on meeting Bryan.

Around 3 pm his manager told us to wait for Bryan at a small living room. So, Adriana, the photographer and I went there and wait for another 15 min. Through all the time that I waited for Bryan, including the night before, I always stayed calm. I always thought that if I get to meet Bryan I would be really nervous, but for my surprise, I always stayed calm.

Finally at 3:15 Bryan arrived, with his manager, to the living room. Adriana was the first to say hello to Bryan. She introduced herself and gave Bryan the bottle of tequila and the flowers. I remember that Bryan said that they should drink it before getting to the States. Then Bryan looked at me and said ‘Come here’.

I introduced myself and gave him a tulip that I had bought to him the day before. I congratulated him fro his birthday and asked him if I could give him a hug. He smiled and said yes and I hug him!!!

I took the pesto and said to him: ‘I made this pesto for you, I believe you like pesto.’ And he said ‘Oh Pesto!’.

I wanted to tell him the ingredients but in the middle of the list I went blank. He looked at me kindly, very calm, and said ‘olive oil?...yes…pine nuts?....I said ‘No, it has almonds and a little bit of garlic.

Then he said if we better moved to the other table, a taller table. Where we brought our cd’s for him to sign.

He first signed Adriana’s cd. hen he finished I gave him a letter I had for him, which he stare at for a second. Then I gave him the cd book for him to sign. He said ‘Mina right?’.

In the meanwhile I told him that I have been a fan for 15 years so far and I asked him if I could take a picture with him. Adriana took the picture first and then me. Then the photographer asked him, with a very poor English if he could take a picture of him for a newspaper, but Bryan didn’t understood, so I told Bryan ‘He wants to take you a picture for a newspaper’ and Bryan asked ‘with them?’ (Adriana and me) but the photographer wanted to be only Bryan in the picture.

After that he said goodbye. I remember I hug him again and wish him a nice trip. When he was leaving I told him ‘Bryan you’re the best musician in the world’, he looked at me and said ‘No, there are many other better musicians than me’ (or something like that). I smiled and just said ‘Bye Bryan’.

We went to say goodbye to him at the car (a red Audi). Adriana and the photographer stood near to his window but I preferred to give him some space and I stayed behind the car. When he got into the car he put on his sun glasses and wave goodbye to the others….and then he turned back and wave me goodbye. I waved back and watched how the car left.

Meeting Bryan was so unlike as I thought it would be. Everyone thought, including me, that I would behave very euphoric. But I always stayed calmed and relax. He is a very calm person, very kind and polite. Everyone kept asking me: are you nervous? But for my surprise I was never nervous. It felt like if I was meeting an old friend…..which in some way is true.
