29/10/06 - AUDITORIO NACIONAL, MEXICO CITY

Review by Eduardo:
The concert was amazing.. nothing different in the setlist but hey, yesterday was one of the most happy moments I have spent in my life that I can recall. I was really, really happy, I forgot about everything and spent the whole concert singing, clapping, shouting, whistleing, jumping (I'm still in good shape, hehehe). This kind of new version of "Room service" was great... and what to say about "Hearts on fire"!!, probably the song I enjoyed the most.. this extension at the end is wonderful.. hehehe.. I went crazy when I heard the first chords and screamed 'Hearts on fire!!!!!!!! woooowwwww!!!!!!'... of course enjoyed a lot others like "Summer of '69", "Run to you", "Let's make a night to remember", "I think about you", etc. The whole concert was great even when it lasted just a bit less than two hours. It surprised me that a lot of people knew the words, the audience was too loud and songs like "Straight from the heart", "All for love" or "Please forgive me" were mainly sang by the crowd.

I realize that you can have even a thousand concerts on Cds, audio and video tapes, DVDs, etc., but of all that is nothing compared to actually live a concert. I wish they come back soon and not wait for another fourteen years. I feel kind of touched now that I am recalling what I lived yesterday as all happened way too fast that I didn't have time to think about it as I am doing it now... besides, I'm listening to the recording at the Althorp Park, which makes me feel even happier. By the way, not only because I am Mexican, but knowing that this one in Northampton was perhaps the best one from the summer concerts, the performance yesterday at the Auditorio Nacional was a bit better :)

This was the set... before leaving for the concert I prepared a small format in a paper to write the songs there, but I was so focused on the show that I didn't even want to put out this paper so I wrote the set in my left hand as the songs were being performed... I am not 100% sure if it is correct:

1. Room service
2. Somebody
3. Open road
4. 18 til I die
5. Let's make a night to remember
6. Can't stop this thing we started
7. Back to you
8. I think about you
9. Summer of '69
- Introduction of the promoter and, if I remember well, Bryan mentioned his wife as a kind of dedication of the next song.
10. Have you ever really loved a woman?
11. (Everything I do) I do it for you
12. Cuts like a knife
13. When you're gone
- With a friend from here, Mexico City: Irma Rocha.
- At the end Bryan told her that she did a great song and asked her who she was with, so she mentioned three of us: Irene, Alín and Eduardo (me), though I was two rows behind them. Bryan said that they were going to give us T-shirts but after that some guy told Irma that there were no more left or somehting like that. She was very good anyway, a lot of people even came to she at the end of the show to greet her and asked to get photos with her. We had the chance to see the members of the band when they were leaving the venue (but Bryan) and Keith told her she did a great job on stage.
14. It's only love
15. Hearts on fire (really amazing )
16. Heaven
17. The only thing that looks good on me is you

Encore 1:
18. Cloud number nine
19. Run to you

Encore 2 with only Bryan:
20. Please forgive me
21. When you love someone (kind of rare but it has lately been performed).
22. Straight from the heart
23. All for love

We missed many more songs.. "Low life" was just put out from the set as it was performed in the other concerts.. oh!, "Kids wanna rock" (the normal version) was a must but it never came.. hmm what else?.. well, I wish that a lot of songs were performed but it was far to be possible. Now let's see how the guys in Central and South America receive the band.. they were happy here in Mexico and Bryan thanked for the grea and warm reception, which makes me think that they didn't expect that we were going to receive them so well after sixteen years (well, I didn't go to the concerts in October of 1992 as I wasn't a fan yet but I guess the Auditorium was full then), so I really hope to see them soon again.

By the way, I entered the auditorium with a minicassette recorder and pushed the buttons to record -knowing that a crap recording was going to be done, as those recorders are not good for a concert but better something than nothing- and I don't know what I did wrong but nothing of the music is listenable.. only our chat after the concert as I didn't press 'stop' when it finished.

Retaking what I mentioned about seeing the members of the band when they were leaving… only a few fans went to the office’s gate of the auditorium (that gate is where artists enter and leave the venue). First to come out was Mickey, then Gary, Norm and Keith -who stayed with some girls having a fans’ photographs section at the door, hehehe-. Besides giving each one a hug (except Norm, who entered the van while I was talking with Mickey and Gary), I got three items signed by them… two promotional Cds: ‘Summer of ‘69’ (French release) and ‘The rock tracks from 18 til I die’ (U.S. release) as well as the ‘Waking up the neighbours’ album’s cover. Another great thing was that I asked one of those girls to take a photo of Keith and I. The white van left and right behind a black car went out very fast –inside surely was Bryan and we couldn’t do nothing but wave goodbye.

It was a really fine and happy day :)
