25/02/07 - FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL, LA QUINTA VERGARA, VINA DEL MAR

Review by Steven Stanley:
Although I didn't attend this show I thought I might as well review it seeing as I watched it live on the internet. It was also shown across Chile on TV. The first show of a new group of shows sometimes throws up new setlist changes and this was no expection. To my surprise the band kicked off with 'Can't Stop', which to my memory at 3 in the morning I can't recall them doing before. To be honest it was probably to cram in as many hits as possible as hardly anybody would have known the newer stuff. Bryan was in a long sleeved black shirt and jeans.

Just before 'Back To You' he said "Last time I was in Chile was 17 years ago, and I'm very happy to be here again tonight. So this ones for you... it's called 'Back To You'!" The bounce seemed to go on forever as well (or was that real player going tits up lolol) and the band looked in good form.

Then finally... Bryan steps out and plays '69 with his Orange Gretsch like the days when he rocked his socks off... superb. Complete with stage long sprints and the guys high fiving... late night internet viewing doesn't get much better. He also ran down the side of the stage during the song to thrash his guitar right among the fans.

An acoustic fest follows with 'Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman' and 'Everything I Do' before proceeding got back to normal with 'Cuts Like A Knife'. Big guitar fun was had at the end of the song with Bryan doing a brief solo and Keith swinging his guitar upside down while still playing it.

Next up time for 'When You're Gone'... Bryan picks a fan that really really deserves to get onstage... she's a fan called Claudia from Chile... I think the only member from Chile who's in his fanclub too... she came all the way to sunny Coventry by herself just to see Bryan in 2005. She even mentioned the Coventry show onstage! If there was anybody who was hysterical about Bryan coming to Chile it was her... so well done Claudia.

'Heaven' and 'The Only Thing' (which sounded great as always) rounded off the main set. The latter being played on the Green Gretsch which sounded quality. He then introduced the band. Two hosts then came out and interviewed BA briefly (who also introduced him at the start) which seemed wierd and he said he didn't know why it took him 17 years to play here but he was glad to be back. He then kissed the female hostess 3 times as he said "in Canada we kiss 3 times"... put down this trophy thing they gave him and started 'Cloud #9'...once again without the "#9 #9 #9' intro.

Back on form again once more with 'Run To You' which was plagued with guitar probs but came together in the end with the guys running around the stage and Keith attacking the camera with his guitar! The host came out again once more to talk to Bryan... Bryan took photos of the crowd, and himself with the hosts... even the camera guy!

He then closed the show with an acoustic version of 'Please Forgive Me'... and with a quick "see ya soon!" he was gone. It has to be said - awful setlist... he was clearly limited by the festival contraints and stuck to the hits... for the people who have never seen him before though it must have been great.
