SOUND SYSTEMS
ALTON TOWERS '99 - Pop sensation, Bryan Adams,
appeared for one day on July 24th at the Alton Towers arena in Staffordshire.
Providing the Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker system for the
concert event was Canegreen of London who supplied 3 MSL-6s, 5 DS-2Ps
and 10 MSL-4s on either side of the stage, with 8 650-Ps situated
under each of the flown systems.
"While testing the system we found that the coverage was good
in all areas of the arena," said Yan Stile of Canegreen. "Both
the organizer and promoter's representative were present when we
ran the system up and both commented on how good the Spl, range
and coverage were throughout the venue.
Designing the PA for the one-day concert event was
Andrew Frengley of Canegreen and Tony Zabo, sound technician for
the Bryan Adams tour.
BANGALORE '01 - To cover the vast audience
area - about 250 feet wide and almost 400 feet deep - Reynold configured
a large Meyer Sound main system supplemented by delay towers. The
two main clusters comprised thirty-two MSL-4s and sixteen DS-4Ps,
with pairs of CQ-1 and CQ-2 provided for side and center front fills
respectively. For bottom end, the system offered twenty 750-P powered
subwoofers. (A variant of the 650-P originally developed for cinema
applications, the 750-P offers extended very low frequency response.)
To supplement the band's own in-ear monitors, Reynold provided a
pair of UPA-1Ps and a 750-P for each side of the stage. Four delay
towers, placed two per side about 120 feet back, each carried four
MSL-4 cabinets.
Following the show, Adams' audio crew chief and FOH technician,
Tony Szabo, was effusive in his praise for the Reynold crew and
their Meyer system. "The show went very well," says Szabo,
"and the audio was on a par with some of the best shows we
have done around the world. I was particularly impressed with the
service-oriented attitude of the Reynold crew. When it came to aligning
all the zones, SIM® engineer Michael Furtado was a step ahead
of me in getting the system working cohesively. As a result, the
system sounded great and covered everyone in the venue."
Szabo left Bangalore with a new perspective on the capabilities
of Indian sound hire companies. "We have used Meyer in many
countries around the world," he sums up, "but I can say
this was one of the best-sounding Meyer rigs we have heard."
